N Scale H0 Train Sets
One of the smallest H0 train sets is the N Scale HO scale train set. The N scale train set was presented in 1962
by K. Arnold Company of Nuremburg. This company was founded by Karl Arnold in 1906. It has been quite popular since
then. N scale is second in popularity for model railroad scale.
N Scale H0 Train Sets
The N scale gauge track is harder for youngsters due to the small pieces and some adults may have difficulty
handling these small pieces as well.
The N scale is very popular with hobbyists and collectors compared to other scales If you want to visualise the
scale, a 40’ box car would be just 3.25” long, .75” wide, and 1.00” high.
N is about half the size of the HO scale trains. The scale ranges from 1:48 to 1:60 with the 1:60 gauge being the most
commonly used.
The track gauge is 9 mm. The N stands for 9 millimeters from rail to rail, or .354 of an inch from rail to rail.
The track can be bought in straight, long straight, and curve. The long straight can be bent into any shape that is
needed to fit your needs. The small track allows curves to be made more gradual.
There are manual or electric switches available to switch the train from one track to another and the preference
is up to each individual. One thing about the N scale train is there are not as many options of cars and
accessories as there is for the larger H0 sets, although the N scale toy train set is manufactured by many
different companies.
With a little research, a person can find just the electric train set that they want. Prices vary according to
how big or how small a layout package a person wants to start with.
The passenger cars, freight train and rolling stock for the N scale are more detailed than others. Many of the
carriages and locomotives are so detailed they look like the real ones. Some locomotives resemble the first train.
Locomotives can also be found to look like the steam era up to our modern day electric locomotive.
Some engines can pull as many as 100 cars, although the N scale locomotives are powered by DC motors. These
motors can handle a maximum of 12 V DC.
With the N scale being as small as it is, a person can set up a large amount of track and scenery in a small
area. If a person is looking for scenery items for the N scale H0 scale train, set they can find them at hobby
shops or toy train shops.
The scenery is up to the owner of the train. If one wants a city scenery they can purchase people, lights and
telephone poles, and sidewalk kits, among accessories. If one chooses the open terrain they can purchase valleys,
rivers, animals, farms, and others.
Scale model toy train sets can be bought in sets that already has the scenery that one wants. Then more pieces
can be purchased to expand the set. One can also buy each piece individually to suit their desire.
The options are endless with N scale H0 train sets, because N scale tabletop railway train sets can be as
big or as small as you want them to be.
